Peroutka: GOP Platform Debacle Proves Party No Longer Home for Conservative Principle
Monday August 30, 12:23 pm ET
PASADENA, Md., Aug. 30. /PRNewswire/ -- "That there was even a debate within the Republican Platform Committee as to whether or not they should embrace pro-abortion party members is further proof that when it comes to matters of life, death and Constitutional principles, there is no real difference between the Republican and Democratic parties," said Michael A. Peroutka, Constitutional Party presidential nominee.
Peroutka's statements come in response to the efforts of pro-abortion and pro-homosexual Republicans to add their so-called "unity plank" to the GOP's official platform. They were successful in adding language that says the party will "respect and accept" their differing views. "I don't understand how you show respect for someone who advocates for acts that destroy the moral fabric of our society," said Peroutka. "That just doesn't make sense.
"Either you believe that abortion is an intrinsic moral evil that always takes the life of an innocent human being, or you do not. Either you believe that marriage is a sacred institution, granted to us by God, between one man and one woman, or you do not," Peroutka continued. "Tokenistic words and half- hearted efforts aside, the Republican leadership has proven that they fall into the latter category, and that they want to toss true conservatism out their 'open door.'"
Peroutka went on to observe that this problem is not exclusive to the Republican Party. "John Kerry (D-Mass.) publicly parades his Christian faith, while clearly advocating for abortion on demand, embryonic stem cell research and human cloning, in utter defiance to his professed faith," said Peroutka. "In the same way, the Republican party pays lip service to its conservative base while actively courting liberals within their Party."
"The Constitution Party does not suffer from the same identity crisis the Republicans do," observed Peroutka. "Our platform is 100 percent pro-life without exception. We do not recognize or support homosexual relationships in any form, no matter what euphemism is used to describe them.
"Conservatives can no longer afford to waste their vote," stated Peroutka. "That is why I am urging them to support the party that is not embarrassed to support them."
